Pathea Games, a Chinese studio based in Chongqing and founded in 2010, has announced its latest project: The God Slayer, with a release date still to be determined. Best known for their cozy titles My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock, the studio is taking a sharp turn with this new venture. Pathea describes it as:
“Enter an Eastern-inspired steampunk metropolis where gods known as Celestials reign with a divine fist. In this open-world RPG, you are an Elemancer who refuses to bow. Infused with elemental powers and a heart of vengeance, you will dethrone them all. You will rise to be the God Slayer.”
The World of The God Slayer
According to the game’s lore, the Celestial Gods created the world, and the creatures within it, to harness an energy called qi. Upon death, this energy would pass to the Celestial Realm, granting the gods eternal life. However, some humans discovered how to absorb and transform this qi into elemental powers of fire, water, earth, metal, and wood.
This pissed off the Celestials. Enraged, they retaliated by slaughtering anyone they found who had figured out how to use the energy for themselves.

You play as Cheng, whose family was killed by the Celestial Gods. Fueled by revenge, you set out on a campaign to avenge your loved ones and save your people.
Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender will likely feel right at home here. Cheng’s elemental abilities and combat style draw clear comparisons to the series in the best ways.
The Future of The God Slayer
The God Slayer was officially announced a year ago, with an expected release roughly two years from the time of this article. Many eastern-developed games tend to emphasize quality over the more profit-driven tendencies of some western AAA studios. If that holds true here, players can likely expect a polished, less buggy experience at launch, along with quick and consistent patches.
As Pathea Games releases more information, we’ll continue updating this article.
